Easy to use
Soft box folds out easily and hook up is simple with Linco Flora fluorescent light bank. Take off one star for hard to fold back the soft box to original size to fit in the bag provided. It will take some effort and time to fold it. Soft box material feels like vinyl and MAY crack under UV exposure when used outdoor. Only time can tell. The light bank is fantastic (5 stars). It is solidly built with ceramic sockets. Down side is a bit heavy but with a sturdy stand, there should be no problem. There are two switches on the back of the light bank each controls 3 bulbs. It is fast and convenient to turn off the lights or have just 3 bulbs on. The cord with the light bank is not that long and you may need an extension cord if there is not a power plug on the side wall close by. I bought those huge fluorescent bulbs (about 8 inches long)for photography to use with the light bank and soft box. The light bulbs fits in the soft box well without touching the screen. I like it so...
Happy with my purchase
I bought the cool light bank because it's low energy consumption and cool heat output. These may be better for the studio... but I use the light bank in the field and recommend buying the light bulb bag for easy setup and breakdown. The intensity of these lights work well for interviews and close proximity. I really like the soft box for interviews, but the light bulbs take a while to screw in and delay my setup and production time. Honestly, the time it takes for the lights to cool down and store matches that of halogen light cooling times. I use both halogen and fluorescent lights, the cooling and breakdown time for both works well in unison. The foam handle used to slip off according to video samples I saw on Youtube, etc. But when I received my kit, the foam handle was glued on real well.
A must for doing video and great for photos
The looks I get from some clients as I put these up is a mix of fascination and a look of relief. Clients don't want to see shoddy gear or relive a bad moment from a previous "So called expert" that brought shop lights rigged with coat hangers.
The look and ease of these is wonderful. One note of caution, when you screw the tiny thumbscrew at the tip of the base, make sure you are not grinding off the tooth that holds it locked open. I did this and now one of them is a little stubborn with wanting to fold as I seat it. After it is screwed in place that problem is gone but just keep that in mind.
I put in 150Watt CFL's and all six of them create a super bright light. Just peel the top off the diffuser open a bit to let the heat out. They warm up pretty quick so you can switch them off when not in use then back on fairly quick.
