Amazing Tripod - not so amazing after 3 months
Unbelievable ,
I was impressed with tripod quality.Very solid build.
Weights little bit more than I expected, but I can't understand why pay more for Manforto o Gitzo.
June update ( About 6 months since purchase)
Well now, when I have the product more than half year I'm changing my mind.
I both this tripod for my SE Asia 1 year journey , after 4 months one of the tripod legs stopped working properly, I can't block the leg and it opens wide open.
I sent few emails to manufacture to get recommendation where I can fix it in Asia , no answer for 3 months.
I'm still able to use it , but not on any surface ,which is really frustrating, and I'm not enjoying the product anymore
Light and Versatile
After years of trekking around with my 7LB Manfrotto ( that's without a head ) I needed something sturdy, light and the Vanguard Alta Pro 254CT was spot on. So was the price. At first I was nervous about the legs as they just seemed 'delicate' but after some field work they proved solid as the aluminum and steel of the Manfrotto - and less than half the weight.
The real bonus was the swivel function on the center column - would go as far to say for most still applications you can get by without the added weight of a head - just watch your weight distribution. the twist locks on the legs work great and the feet provide both rubber and spike options with a few twists of the feet.
More than satisfied.....
Great tripod, not so great cast parts
I had the same problem as Gil (above). I love the tripod, but after 6 months of traveling, the leg gears broke off, so one leg will now not lock properly. This basically renders the entire tripod useless. I currently have a call in to their customer service, so we'll see how that goes. To me, it seems like a design flaw they should address. Otherwise, a great tripod.
