Expensive but so handy
I'm really not sure why this costs so much, but I guess Nikon figures you've already bought a D4 so what's wrong a little more price gouging? I took away one star because of the price.

Anyway, price aside, this device is really useful. I used it the other night while shooting my daughter's school talent show. My son was sitting next to me holding an iPad, and we could quickly review the photos on the large screen as I was taking each shot. The latest photo automatically appears on the iPad a couple seconds after you take it.

You can either join an existing Wifi network, or, as I prefer to, set up an ad hoc network that your iPhone/iPad joins -- that way you are not relying on any existing network.

Convenient but pricey
I bought one of these for my D4, which sometimes gets used for aerial photography - the camera mounted outside the aircraft, and photographer (me!) mounted in the cockpit. In this mode, the WT-5A is very handy and once you sort out any issues, it's actually quite reliable. Battery life is okay, and construction quality is about what you'd expect from Nikon: mostly bulletproof. Size isn't much of an issue since people using this stuff will mostly be using the camera on a tripod.

Still, I'm somewhat surprised in this day and age that Nikon wouldn't just tuck an 802.11 WiFi chip (and a GPS chip!) inside the mighty D4 and be done with it. To have GPS geotagging and wireless operation will set you back quite a healthy sum.

Other thing is that I also own one of the new D800E cameras, and was surprised the WT-5A doesn't work with it. I know I should have checked in advance, but I didn't...turns out the D800 uses the older WT-4A setup - even more cumbersome and expensive...

Excellent implementation of wireless for the D4
I'm thrilled with this wireless link. It is small and unobtrusive. I have used it with an iPad and an iPhone for remote camera control. It's by far the best remote you can use, since you can preview the image on-screen. I have also used it to download photos to my computer. It's not as fast as a hard-wired connection or card reader, but is still quite good. It's also a great way to review your shooting work in the field on a larger screen. I find it difficult to critically judge a photo on the 3" screen on the D4, but I can look at the photos on my iPad to get immediate feedback if I need to make adjustments. I've also used it to preview photos for shooting subjects when doing portrait work. Again - the real time feedback allows you to make technical adjustments, and your subject can adjust their actions also.

The web-based interface is pretty good. It's not perfect, but is reasonably logical.

I've set it up with two profiles - one using my general network and...
