Gitzo Series 5 Systematic 4 Section Tripod GT5542LS

Systematic is Gitzo's top of the range tripod family, the choice of professional photographers who use long lenses and heavy cameras. Not only are Systematic Gitzo's strongest and most stable tripods, they're also modular, with a top casting element that opens and closes to allow each tripod to be configured with a flat disk, geared or sliding center column, video half-ball adapter, leveling unit or other specialized center component. Now, Systematic has been refined, with significant improvements across strength, stability and rigidity; safety and security; set-up speed, ease of use and ergonomics. New construction and bonding techniques have almost doubled maximum payloads by distributing weight more efficiently to the 6X carbon fiber legs, which also feature the G-Lock system for greater power and ease of leg section locking. In addition, design details on the distinctive new triangular top casting make changing center components even faster and safer. The choice of the most demanding professionals, Systematic Series 5 tripods now support up to 88lbs (40kg) of camera equipment and accessories, and are the most rigid tripods in the whole Gitzo range. Supporting the heaviest camera equipment and giving the stability needed by lenses up to 800mm. Technical Specifications: Series 5; Leg Sections 4; Maximum Height 60.43 in; Minimum Height 3.94 in; Closed Length 24.02 in; Weight 6.17 lbs.

Get this and you'll understand why it's the best in its class
I'm a semi-pro and been shooting since the late-70's. It's been said "it's not the gear but how you use it", and is still very true today. However, gear does have it's place, and when it comes to tripods I wish I had obtained uncompromising ideals far sooner than I did (would have saved a ton of shots, not to mention $$).

You often hear "you get what you pay for". When it comes to camera supports that couldn't be more spot-on. Now you certainly can purchase another brand that's cheaper and get some acceptable results, but you won't achieve the overall consistent performance and longevity with your supports if you go with a less than upper-end brand. I've used several Manfrotto/Bogen tripods (aluminum), and in recent years migrated to Induro Carbon Fibre (CF tripods), and I still have my Induro CT214 & CT414. The latter performs pretty well for long lens work (that's the only reason you'd get a Carbon Tripod weighing over 6 pounds -- although it will certainly work...

Gitzo GT5542
I have used Gitzo tripods for many years, My last 1541 lasted over 8 years and still worked perfectly, This 5542 takes it to a new level with easy to adjust gets, very sturdy and will last a lifetime, Not cheap but the best never is

WELL WORTH THE MONEY
So glad I saved up and bought this tripod. Well worth the investment. Extremely sturdy build and extremely light. Combine that with the fact you can add a 100 or 75mm bowl attachment and the tripod becomes an even better deal! With a support rating of up to 55 lbs I know it will safely hold my rigged out BMCC.
