Business Oriented- Lightning Fast
If the price did not give it away, this scanner is intended for business heavy duty use. It is not designed (or priced) for a home-user. It is important to choose the proper product for the application.
The Kodal I2800 is a very impressive product with a very solid build quality and reasonable footprint. Installation took about 5 minutes to acheieve a workable, non-customized state. It is heavier compared to any "home user" model I have ever used. The scanner has a 100 sheet rated duplex capacity (I actually managed 113) with lightning throughput. I experienced no jams in scanning over 1,000 pages of mixed paper, mostly 20# recycled. Most importantly, I experienced no issues with dog eared pages, unlike with most scanners I used in the past. The scanner also allows custom mapping of software buttons to further make your workflow efficicent.
The scanner is bundled with paperPort, OmniPage and Kodak's own proprietary software. All are likely adequate for home...
Blazingly fast, but not as user-friendly as the Fujitsu ScanSnap
I've used the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 for about 6 months now, and it's the only scanner I can compare to the Kodak i2800. I have a small home office and use the ScanSnap (and tested this Kodak i2800) for both business and personal use. This Kodak scanner won out for speed. It really churns out the images, so if you have to scan a lot every day, this may be a good buy - if you don't mind the lack of good user-friendly software.
It comes with its own software, plus third-party software (PaperPort and OmniPage), none of which measure up to the intuitive, user-friendly software that Fujitsu has for its ScanSnap. I tweaked the Kodak settings for hours and it's still not performing as well as the ScanSnap did out of the box. For example, the ScanSnap automatically adjusts for the size of the receipt, so it scans and saves only what's needed. Even after tweaking, the Kodak doesn't. The ScanSnap Organizer software is much more intuitive than any of the Kodak software, making saving...
Is it wrong to love a scanner this much?
Bottom line: Very pricy, but if you need to deal with lots of paper, this scanner is a joy to use. Wonderful paper handling, speedy, compact and easy to use.
Full review: I have to deal with mountains of paper for work, and much of it needs to be scanned for usage and archiving. My workhorse so far has been an Epson Workforce Pro GTS-50 and have been generally pleased with it. But, I'm always looking for something that will help streamline the workflow for scanning. I tried the Brother ADS2500W, which was a big disappointment in terms of paper handling capabilities.
The Kodak i2800, however, is impressive. Really impressive. As you would expect at this price point, it hits all the usual check boxes of a higher-end scanner (such as TWAIN compatible, one-touch keys that can be mapped to specific scan parameters, duplex scanning, compact footprint, etc.) and accomplishes it in a straightforward, easy-to-use manner.
But what I was most impressed with was...
