An Impressive Small Camera

My new daily camera!
My old TX-9 body is bruised and its screen is cracked. I have tried every new Sony and Canon that has come out in the past few years, but none were good enough to take its place.

Now, finally, I have a new camera to carry- the TX55!

For me, the two OVERWHELMINGLY most important features in a day-to-day camera are quickness and pocketability. Nothing else about a camera matters if I miss the picture because (1) I waiting for the camera, or (2) I don't have the camera with me. The TX-55 is a winner on both accounts.

This camera is fast. Thanks to the sliding lens cover and super-fast startup, I can pull the Tx-55 out of my pocket and take a picture in about 1 second. I think it is the fastest pocket-to-picture camera currently available.

This camera is handy. It is small and thin enough to fit in my front pocket along with my wallet, so I always have it with me and ready to shoot.

A study in tradeoffs
It seems like the designers of this camera were given just one instruction - design the smallest, lightest, most compact camera possible. And certainly, this is hands down the sleekest and most portable camera I have ever used. Add a breathtaking 3.3" OLED display to its gorgeous form factor and you have an awesome looking device. It's almost a fashion statement in itself! And, as long as one doesn't expect miracles from a near-credit card sized device, the image quality is quite reasonable.

Unfortunately, a number of tradeoffs were necessary to achieve this.

1. Size Matters
This is definitely a try-before-you-buy camera. There are unique challenges with a body this svelte. I often covered up the microphone inputs (very hard to avoid). The twig-like joystick zoom control felt very unnatural. It was needlessly difficult to open the shutter cover (no grooves to assist your fingers). And, I struggled with inserting the MicroSD card (it is possible to insert it...

worked perfect for my xd500u - No more white pixels
My mitsubishi XD500U began to get white pixels one the display. It got worse and worse rapidly. Used a youtube video for dlp replacement which was not the same model, but almost an identical how to. Much cheaper than buying a new projector but did talk a little time and skill to do. I have had it for about a month now with no problems.

As Expected
After about 45 minutes of work I have a "like new" projector with no white dots on the screen. The new works perfectly. Much better than buying a new projector.

My sling-bag of choice

Let me first say that just like there is no perfect camera, there is also no perfect sling-bag (or any kind of a gear-bag for that matter). Everything depends on your particular situation. Sling-bags are either too small, too big, too difficult to switch between carrying and shooting modes, or their shape may be too awkward to accomodate your stuff in a logical and convenient way. So, mine is just a personal opinion that may or may not apply to your particular needs. Also, nobody should compare the functionality, convenience and comfort of use of sling-bags in relation to photo-backpacks or shoulder bags. All three have different uses and are completely different from one another.

Over the last seven years, I have bought and used 5 sling-bags from 3 different manufacturers (TAMRAC Velocity 6 and 7, LOWE PRO Slingshot 200AW and 300AW and TENBA Shootout Medium).

Great compact bag for short trips
This is one of four bags that I have in my collection. This is the perfect bag to take on short trips into the city or on a nature walk into the woods. It lets you pull out your camera, while you are still walking, and shoot your shot and put it back into the bag. I use to miss shots while traveling but now I am able to get them and still have my equipment protected. The zipper seem to seal themselves shut to protect from water. I carry one camera with lens, second camera body, flash w/GF difuser, 3 lenes and most important it holds a tripod. None of the other sling bags that I found hold a tripod.

This bag does perform as advertised very nicely. I do find it's not as comfortable as a regular back-pack, but it does offer quicker access. Reasonable trade-off.

I carry a D90 w/lense, and two additional lenses and accessories. There is no good way to carry filters. Some padded pockets would be nice, maybe there's after-market available?

**I had my top-handle pull off the bag on the flight to Hawaii. An email sent to Tenba was answered within an hour to my cell phone, and a new bag was overnited to my hotel. They did ask for a CC number that would be discarded once they recieved my old bag back. (also sent pre-paid shipping label for return)

Anything this bag lacks, the company made up for with superb customer service!

I bought this 'scope to do work on surface mount circuit boards, e.g. soldering, inspection. This is the target market for the scope (look at product image). I'd buy the 'scope again, and would probably even get a camera, but I'd save $100 and get the 5MP camera instead of the 10MP.

DSLR features, point and shoot price
The Fuji S1800 is a a nice tweener, filling the gap between pocket point-and-shoot cameras and a DSLR. It's larger than typical point and shoot cameras (thanks to the 18X zoom lens) yet smaller than a DSLR. Despite the extra bulk, the S1800 is light and compact enough to carry around for extended periods. The plastic body is sturdy and light. The camera is powered by four AA batteries (alkaline or rechargeable). All of the controls are very well placed and settings are easy to locate. The top dial allows for quick switching between automatic, manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, or programmed scene shooting modes. There is a button on the back for switching between the LCD or the electronic viewfinder. The flash performs well and has a slow sync feature. There is no input for an external flash (or any other accessories other than a tripod). Shooting with the S1800 is a joy. S1800 Boom or bust
I purchased the 1800 after seeing a HSN demo on the camera. First, I must be honest by stating I am a retired journalist who shot her own photos, and a long time Nikon owner and more recently a digital Canon SLR owner. I still shoot and sell my work, mostly scenery and automotive photos.

A lot of camera for your money.
If you are one of those digital camera users who want some of the high end features of an SLR without the big price tag this might be right for you. It is so new hardly anyone knows it is slowly coming out on the market. Got mine at a special launch on HSN. Though there have been mixed reviews as to how good it is I don't have any complaints. Like zoom capability? The Fuji S-18 has as much as anyone practically needs. My only knock is you have use a tripod when using full zoom power unless you have a steady hand. Good Camera, but...
I am a serious photographer and I usually shoot with a pro Nikon camera. I purchased this camera because I did not want to expose my pro Nikon to the elements, and this camera is wonderful for that purpose.

I have added some sample shots for you to judge the quality for yourself. I have to agree with other reviews that the GPS function is ok at best. I have found that I need to be in clear view of the sky for the GPS to find the current location. I have noticed that while the GPS is searching, it really uses lots of battery power. I now geotag a few photos and then turn off the GPS to save on battery power.

In strong light, the camera sensor washes out some images... I would like to see a feature to allow for strong backlight as well.

It is very easy to put your finger in front of the lens by mistake.

If you use a Mac, the AVCHD (30 min recording at a time) mode does not play, I have to A) convert the file or B) set the camera to HD...

Wonderful Camera
This camera has exceed my expectations in every way. I've had the opportunity to use in the rain, the sea and in a pool. The image quality is far superior than I imaged, especially underwater. The HD video is very good both above and below water. The unit seems sturdy based on the abundant amount of metal use on the body. I wouldn't be worried if I drop it.

Why did I buy this? Well for one an upcoming Caribbean vacation, reviews and specifications. I plan to take video of Stingrays and turtles soon. Originally I purchased a Pentax WG-1 which really had terrible HD video and image stabilization on land. Admittedly, I am extremely picky about HD video quality (I do videos) and the Pentax just didn't cut it for me. So I returned it and obtained this unit. Glad I did.

Photos and video taken with the Ts3 underwater are sharp + balanced. The water tight seal seems adequate and did not fail after three hours in the pool and several excursions in the sea. The...

best of the 'rugged' cameras
I purchased this camera as an upgrade from my Fuji xp10. I also bought an xp30 and the Panasonic consistently blows it away.

GPS: First sat aquisition takes a while, that is to be expected. After than in clear view (no trees, etc) I have gotten quick consistent signals in Hawaii and decent signals in Washington. Hawaii is much better as would be expected because there are more available sat's the closer to the equator. If you are expecting performance on par with your Garmin device, you will be disappointed. If you are expecting the tiny gps sensor to work under most reasonable circumstances, then you will be pleased. The GPS data on the display screen is a nice bonus but again, don't fool yourself into expecting dedicated gps device performance.

Best consumer camcorder I have ever seen. Reviewed by professional videographer.
I have owned a small wedding videography company for 5 years and after using the HFS10 for a week I am incredibly pleased with it. Please note the HFS10 is identical to the HFS100 except the HFS10 also comes with 32GB of internal flash memory.

If you want the smallest camcorder you can get without sacrificing video quality in any way, than this is the camcorder for you. I am amazed at how small this thing is while still having a professional grade lens. This is the same Canon lens as on their GL2 which is probably the most popular entry level professional camcorder ever (which I have owned for a few years).

Pros:
1.) Professional camera lens with superb HD video quality (even in low light situations). I cannot express enough how amazing the pictures look.

2.) Accepts up to 32 GB of SDHC Flash memory

Great Images and Features, Remarkable Stills
I'll try to cover what others haven't. Yes, the images are sharp and the colors are faithful. That goes for both video and stills. I'll try to post an image of a flower as an example of a still shot. Posting video's problematic. One of the key reasons I chose this camcorder is its still image capabilities. I followed other reviewer's recommendations and purchase the separate battery charger and BP-827 battery. And I purchase the optional video light, VFL-2 which is light and small.

If you're new to video, it's a commitment. Taking good videos requires concentration, and at least a little bit of practice. Though the camcorder is truly compact, the supporting equipment is an order of magnitude more bulky than with today's point and shoot digital camera. You can slip an excellent point and shoot in your pocket; video demands a case for the charger, cables, optional video light and power supply at a minimum. Then there's the mandatory downloading and editing...

Highly Recommended, but understand the "total package cost!
MY BACKGROUND: techno-geek engineer, camera and camcorder enthusiast, not a pro videographer or pro photographer. I purchased this product from Amazon (great price!) and have explored its capabilities VERY thoroughly for nine months. I use this camcorder to capture magic moments in the life of our 15 month-old daughter.

Highly recommended for being one of the best full HD (60i/30p @ 1920x1080) "prosumer" camcorders - at this price level. Yes, the convenient SD flash memory is so much better than messy digital tape.
