Great camera (REVISED REVIEW)
***As of July 8, 2013 - With the Olympus E-PL5 now at $499 and the E-PM2 at $424, I would recommend the E-PL5***

I am not disappointed at all with the price/performance of the E-PM2. I got it from an Amazon Marketplace seller on sale for $499 and I sold the bundled lens on Ebay for $119 because I prefer prime lenses--new and latest generation, best image quality Olympus has to offer in a digital camera, for $380 net of sold lens.

What I like about the new E-PM2
--Great low light abilities. Pics at ISO 3200 are still good.
--Touch screen controls are quick. I find I can work the controls on this camera faster than the E-PL3 I previously owned.
--Focuses better and faster than the previous generation PEN.
--Includes a little grip on the front. Makes handling camera much better.

I have previously owned Canon APS-C DLSR equipment and had purchased some high end L lenses.

Review of the E-PM2 with comparison to other PEN series cameras
The Olympus E-PM2 is one of Olympus' 4th generation (digital) PEN series cameras. It shares the same sensor with the two other 4th generation PEN series cameras; the E-PL5 and OM-D. Not surprisingly, the image quality of each of these 4th generation PEN series cameras is almost identical. The E-PM2 is really small and now includes a small grip making handling a bit easier. The camera body is the same size and weight as a smallish compact. The autofocus speed and high ISO image quality is unmatched by any other camera this small. The Menu system is not great and appears suited to those who like the camera to make most of the decisions. The E-PM2 is priced at less than half of the OM-D. As such, it is a real bargain for very similar image quality. Obvioulsy the OM-D has many features and controls not found on the E-PM2 including a very good electronic viewfinder.

I believe each of the PEN series cameras offer a remarkable balance of portability, automated/manual controls...

From a photo enthusiast's point of view
The Olympus E-PM2 camera, which I ordered for $100 off on black friday arrived. First things first: The quality of raw images of E-PM2 rivals many APS-C cameras, and it's the best in mu4/3 realm. Plus the camera is tiny compared to a DSLR. Does it deliver on the promises? Some thoughts after a month of use:

Pros:
* Low ISO images have certain depth and clarity that I only used to get with a DSLR (I've previously owned Canon DSLRs including Rebel Xti, 40D, 5dMkII).
* Colors & auto white balance of images are pretty good. Rich yet natural.
* Autofocus with Olympus 45mm f/1.8 is impressive. Initial acquisition is very fast in good light. Allows me to take pictures of our 1yr old toddler while he's on the move (mind you, he's not a sprinter).
* The camera is pretty fast in high speed mode. Shot-to-shot blackout time is short. Writing on SD card is quick.
* Touch-shutter works really well. I either use the center-point focus or touch shutter, both of...

Lumix DMC-G3 is a winner
Technicals for this camera have been expounded upon ad nauseum already and they are mostly good. So lets go in another direction.
I am a photographer who uses a Canon 5D2 DSLR with the Canon 24-70mm L lens as my every-day setup. It yields superb images for this format.
But, after years of using this combo, you start to feel weighed down ... I needed an alternative to "shlepping" this setup when going on a casual hike or family outing. I ALSO wanted a backup to the Canon 5D2 for those photo trips/assignments where the Canon setup might become inoperative ... sure, I could get another 5D2 body and get weighed down even MORE ... no thanks.
My solution, at this time, is the Panasonic Lumix G3. For now I use it with the 14-140mm Panny OIS zoom lens (I don't particularly like the kit lens that comes with the camera). I also particularly like the Panny 20mm f/1.7 lens which is tiny. The G3 is NO Canon 5D2, BUT it is very convenient and the images are very good compared to...

If you have looked on with dismay as Panasonic abandoned the enthusiast small M4/3 and instead chases a smaller and smaller and dumber and dumber form factor with the GF line, then you now have a reason to be happy. It appears Panasonic is positioning the G3 as the successor to the GF1. They might not know that but that is how I view it. Viewed as a replacement to the G2, the G3 is a bit of a let down. Much the way the GF2 was compared to the GF1. However, the G3 is a great replacement to the GF1. It is a little bigger but not that much. The physical controls are the same but now there is touch screen controls and to make up for many of the missing physical controls there are the C1 and C2 modes on the mode selector. a Before continuing something that very few people seem to understand with these camera systems is the lens, not the camera body, determines how big the camera is. Great Camera With Lots Of Features
Purchased the G-3 with 14-42 kit lens plus a 45-200 and 20mm lens for travel. I am a serious digital outdoor/travel photographer but tired of traveling with 28+ pounds of pro. level equipment. I was looking for a "go light" quality built camera with lot of features and adjustments. It came down to the Panasonic Lumix G-3 or Olympus Pen. The Panasonic won the contest because it has both and high quality LCD screen AND a high quality viewfinder (although it is electronic not optical.) In addition the LCD screen folder out and rotates270 degrees which is a very handy feature. If you want a smaller 4/3 camera and are happy with just the LCD (no viewfinder) the Olympus may be a bit better camera. The G-3 is much much lighter and smaller than my Canon 5D. The only serious limitation is with the available reasonably priced lenses, the are relatively slow compared to more expensive 35mm camera lenses. Wow! This is one great camera!
I have owned the Olympus EP-1, Panasonic GF1, also have a Nikon d90 and canon s90 so I have seen a lot of pictures from all these cameras. First I would like to say the MENU on the NEX is actually pretty GOOD. Yes, like everybody has said it would have been nice to have a dedicated button for iso, w balance etc..BUT it takes literally 1 second and you can change those settings, what's all the fuss about??? I actually find the Nex's menu LESS complicated than the EP1 that drove ME nuts! So..to all afraid of this camera because so many reviews mention the menu is horrible..to them I say what???

What is blowing me away most is the low noise at high iso plus the overall picture quality. I am one of those DSLR people who wants DSLR type quality in the smallest package possible. I admit I am NOT a pro photographer but I can change every setting on my D90 and I know how to go deep into DSLR settings and what they mean. I say this ONLY because the Nex-5 seems aimed at point and...

Absolutely fantastic camera!
I have had this camera now for 3 weeks and its really wonderful overall.

Pros
- Very compact and light - not quite the size of a compact camera but pretty close. With the 16mm lens you can easily slip it into a jacket pocket or carry it in a small case. But it feels very substantial and has great ergonomics. Carrying around a DSLR is such a pain when I am hiking or walking around a city but this is a piece of cake. It also hangs from your neck with the lens pointed down so you don't bump into things with it.
- Articulating screen lets you shoot from the hip (literally). Screen is also super high resolution and what you see on the screen is pretty much what you get with the picture which is amazing for a non SLR camera.
- Fantastic pictures - great colors, excellent quality, 14m pixels really produces clear pictures. Great depth of field. The same sensor as found in a much larger DSLR. Rarely need to use the flash because the sensor is so good.

A mixed bag of blessings
I've shot with both DSLRs and rangefinders for the past 7 years, and I bought this hoping that it would be an easier camera to carry around when I just need to snap a few quick pictures. I've read generally positive reviews and thought I'd give it a try.

It's been a mixed bag from three days of shooting. The camera itself is not meant to be a replacement for a DSLR, or a point and shoot, or a rangefinder. It is not as fast as a DSLR, not nearly small enough to put in your pocket (although the 16mm lens might let you do it), and does not give you manual freedom or "connectedness" like a rangefinder.

The tactile feedback is very limited, and yes, the menu diving is annoying. The options in the menu are inconsistent depending on which camera mode you're on, and some options (like raw shooting) are absent when shooting certain modes like hand-held twilight, panorama, etc. I suppose this makes sense in terms of processing, however the camera doesn't explain that you...
